Hairy Queen
Hairy Queen: Warum Krperbehaarung politisch ist | Ein feministisches Manifest | Franziska Setare Koohestani
1 post | 1 read | 3 to read
Cause Baby, we were born this way. Fikri An?l Alt?nta? When I was a teen, I wondered why it was ok for my boyfriend to have hair literally everywhere, while I spent so much time shaving. Now, 20 years later, I got the answer. Koohestani explains us why body hair is political, how capitalism profits from pink tax and why we should start breaking the rules that bind us down. She also tells about how she suffered from the shaved ideal and what she put herself through. Moving and educational in one.

catiewithac I stopped shaving after college. The pink tax is no joke when you calculate a lifetime of waxing, shaving, etc. Nope! 8mo
Jari-chan @catiewithac Wow, you're amazing! I'm still way too much into the whole thing to totally stop shaving. But I'm working on it. And yes, Pink Tax is no joke. Also count in makeup and tampons. 8mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag I did laser hair removal on my legs - because I was forever missing sections when shaving and I mostly wear dresses… and it was great! Had my underarms done as well, less hair grows back and it‘s soft… it also really removed my level of concern about it - because I realised mid swim one day that it had all grown back and I was unbothered when previously I would have been mortified. 8mo

The_Book_Ninja When I was a kid, a song that you might know called 99 Red Balloons (99 Luftballons)entered the charts. The girl who sung it appeared on TV with unshaven armpits. People had seriously profound conniptions 😂 8mo
Jari-chan @thegirlwiththelibrarybag How great to hear that it doesn't bother you anymore! It's a great feeling to be in peace with oneself ❤️ 8mo
Jari-chan @The_Book_Ninja Nena, right? 😁 Nowadays models get death threats when they show themselves unshaved... 🤦 8mo
The_Book_Ninja @Jari-chan No way! I have no doubt it‘s men doing the threats. And yes, Nena👍🏼 8mo
Jari-chan @The_Book_Ninja Sadly, yes. One was Sophia Hadjipanteli who's famous for her monobrow. I agree that it might be men doing such things 😕 8mo
MemoirsForMe Sounds like a book more of us need to read. I used to be obsessed with waxing and shaving to fit the norm when I was younger. Glad I gave it up. But the Pink Tax is still aggravating. 😤 8mo
Jari-chan @UwannaPublishme Same! I now try to distance me from this ideal and trying to avoid pink tax as much as possible. And you're right - I hope this book gets a lot of readers 🤞 8mo
